Cost Effectiveness of Programs for Students in High-poverty Communities

This project (1996-2002) sought to identify the costs, effects, and cost effectiveness of a variety of educational strategies generally designed to improve student achievement, and with a focus on programs that are focused on improving achievement for low-income and minority students. The project used actual data in districts or states where program costs and effects could be identified. Programs emphasized included class-size reduction to around 15, comprehensive school designs such as Roots and Wings/Success for All, intensive professional development, extended school year, and extended school day.
