CPRE’s Mike Kirst and Stanford University team lead effort to develop a new description of U.S. higher education

Reform and Innovation in the Changing Ecology of U.S. Higher Education, a research project based at the Center for Education Policy Analysis at Stanford University, assembles prominent and rising scholars from a range of disciplines to define a new research and reform agenda for broad-access postsecondary education.

Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, this project will:

1. develop a new description of the post-secondary education sector in the United States that will enable policymakers to better understand how colleges and universities maintain revenue streams, survive and seek to flourish in a complicated organizational ecology;

2. develop a policy incubator for novel and potentially high-payoff interventions in this ecology;

3. recruit and empower a new cohort of reform-oriented researchers committed to testing and evaluating these new policies and helping to disseminate the most successful ones.

Visit the project website (http://cepa.stanford.edu/ecology) for informative background materials and project documents.
