Evaluation of GE Foundation Supported Common Core Reforms in NYC Schools
CPRE at Penn was contracted in 2010 by the General Electric Foundation (GEF) to evaluate the work of all of its partner districts, including New York City. In partnership with the Foundation, the NYC DOE has put in place a long-term strategy for implementing and supporting the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). CPRE is conducting an evaluation of the implementation and impact of these efforts in 2011-12; CPRE-TC is leading the evaluation in New York City.
CPRE’s evaluation in NYC traces implementation of the CCSS, from the central and field offices to schools and classrooms. Students will experience performance-based tests in Spring 2012 to assess the impact of the CCSS on student learning. As preparation, administrators and educators are participating in an extensive program of professional development to build capacity to understand and utilize the CCSS and also to evaluate student work. CPRE’s study will examine the impact of all of these efforts.
