Scalable Literacy Program, Mexico
CPRE and the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project (TCRWP) are engaged in a project to test an approach to improving the quality of literacy teaching and raising the level of literacy performance that is scalable in Mexico. The primary mechanisms for achieving this goal are to adapt the reading workshop model used by TCRWP in New York City and elsewhere for implementation in Mexican schools, to develop collections of leveled books for use in the primary grades, to train local staff developers to support teachers, and to build local capacity to support and expand the program. The project is being implemented in the state of Jalisco; the city of Guadalajara in particular.
