Teachers College Reading and Writing Project
Research Team: Tom Corcoran (CPRE-Teachers College); Marian Robinson (formerly CPRE-Teachers College)
Project Duration: July 2008-present
The Consortium for Policy Research in Education (CPRE) is conducting a research and development project in collaboration with the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project (TCRWP) on the implementation of new formative assessment and management information systems in TCRWP’s New York City partner schools. TCRWP has expanded its assessment work and has developed an extensive portfolio of diagnostic tools for reading and writing that are in use in many of their schools. They are revising their program to align with the Common Core Literacy Standards and developing performance assessments to help teachers measure student progress toward the new standards. CPRE-TC is collaborating with TCRWP in a research project to answer the following questions: 1) How are teachers using the new performance assessments? 2) How is the adoption of the CCS affecting the pedagogy in literacy classrooms? and, 3) How can we develop interview and observation instruments to best capture and describe teacher experiences with this new system?
