New Podcasts on Educational Resources & Equity

By Keith Heumiller
May 1, 2019

CPRE Knowledge Hub and Phi Delta Kappan have joined together to highlight May’s issue of Kappan Magazine and create two quality podcasts. The Research Minutes podcast series invited Kappan contributors to discuss their recent article on educational resources and equity — the causes, the impacts, and the potential solutions.

Ebony Bridwell-Mitchell: How School Partnerships Can Perpetuate Inequalities

In this Research Minutes podcast, Harvard University researcher Ebony Bridwell-Mitchell explores how external school partnerships can perpetuate and even grow inequalities between advantaged and disadvantaged schools. She is joined by CPRE Senior Researcher Rand Quinn (University of Pennsylvania) to discuss her new Kappan article, “Them that’s got? How School Partnerships can perpetuate inequalities,” her research findings, and the potential implications for school leaders, policymakers, and other stakeholders.

Understanding and Addressing Teacher Quality Gaps

In the Research Minutes podcast, CALDER Director Dan Goldhaber discusses the latest research, as outlined in his Kappan article, on teacher quality gaps in U.S. schools. Joined by CPRE Senior Researcher Douglas Ready (Teachers College, Columbia University), Goldhaber examines the trends, sources, and implications of teacher quality gaps and strategies that help school leaders determine to reduce these gaps.
